THE RACE


The German Brown Swiss is most commonly found in the rough mountainous Alp region and grassland foodhills in the southwest of Germany.
The total German Brown Swiss population covers 580.000 animals. Of 245.000 cows 80% are submitted to performance testing. 1.000 bulls and 155.000 cows are registered in the herdbook.
About 1% of all registered herdbook animals are used within a strongly organiced, innovative breeding programme. the consequent, exact selection as well as application of modern biotechniques guarantee the highest possible breeding progress.
Yearly approx. 7.000 breeding animals and 45.000 calves are auctioned by the Greman Brown Swiss breed associations. Close to 50% of auctioned breeding animals are exported worldwide.
